Marvellous Mocktail spots in Cape Town

By Nelia Kennedy

In the 19 weeks that I have been pregnant, I have been offered juice a hundred times. For some reason, people assume that is the drink of choice for pregnant ladies! I didn’t drink juice when I wasn’t pregnant and I definitely don’t want to drink it now! I think that of all the forbidden fruits, I probably miss red wine the most – and don’t even mention an ice cold, refreshing gin and tonic or a fun and icy cocktail!

It’s hard to find a good virgin cocktail – but here are some spots in Cape Town you must try!

heart_love_favorite_circle-512 The Gin Bar – Honest Chocolate:
64A Wale Street / Cape Town

This hidden gem recently opened on Wale street and it is wonderful! Although they don’t have their own virgin menu, they were more than willing to offer their signature cocktails without the Gin.And boy … these drinks are yummy – (the Rosemary & Strawberry G&T called “Heart”). You don’t even notice the absence of alcohol! They share a pretty courtyard with Honest Chocolate and it is just perfect for a pre-dinner drink with friends!
Open Wednesday – Saturday, 5pm – late / Sunday, 2pm – 9pm

205 Beach road, Sea Point

La Vie has a virgin Mojito that will make your toes curl! It tastes JUST like the real thing! No better way to spend a Saturday afternoon, watching the sun set over the promenade. They have outside and covered seating and a very nice lounge area where you still have the view but no wind (and soft comfy pillows!)
Open 08h00 am – 22H00 / 23H00
Monday to Sunday

Old Biscuit Mill

So you are having dinner at one of the best restaurants in Cape Town … but you can’t enjoy a glass of wine with their amazing beef short rib steamed buns. That’s ok, because they have the most delicious virgin cocktail they mix up for you – all you have to do is ask! I can’t for the life of me remember what the name was or if it even had a name,  but it was made with fresh pomegranates. AMAZING! Really!

Reservations are taken between 08:00am and 17:00 Monday to Saturday.
Bookings are now open until November 2015.

A truly authentic Mexican restaurant squeezed in between bohemian record stores and coffee shops – Panchos is a Cape Town institution! They have a few virgin cocktail options to choose from – all deliciously icy and colourful and super budget friendly! It just puts you in a festive mood! There is nothing more fun than sharing a huge plate of nachos with your friends and off course – sipping on a delicious cocktail!
