DIY: Make your own All Purpose Cleaner

I recently read The New Health Rules by Dr Frank Lipman.  This book made me think about what was going on inside my house, this safe confined space, that is often not as safe and toxin free.  After seeing my son literally putting his mouth to everything, including the floor, I felt compelled to slowly start changing my approach to cleaning and cleaning products.

My first step was to do some reading.  I don’t have time to spend days leisurely testing different combinations, experimenting to my hearts content. I needed a simple recipe for an all purpose cleaner to use in my kitchen, bathrooms and on our floors.  Many of the American sites that feature such DIY recipes talk about thieves essential oil as the anti-bacterial component.  After many attempts at finding this essential oil online I relised that it was nothing more than a combination of essential oils believed to have anti-bacterial qualities.  So I made my own.  I found all the ingredients at Faithful to Nature, an online shop, and best of all first time customers get FREE delivery! Whoop whoop!

Anti-bacterial oil combination:

1 20 drops clove essential oil R65

220 drops lemon essential oil R45

310 drops cinnamon leaf essential oil R45

48 drops eucalyptus essential oil R30

55 drops rosemary essential oil R39.50

Combine your oils and store in a dark glass container.  I ordered mine from Bonpak.  They are very affordable, willing to sell single items and they have a delivery option.

Combine 250ml water, 3 tbsp castille soap (R55 for 1L), your antibacterial essential oil combination.  Shake well!

At first the intense smell was overpowering.  I went as far as to consider not using it.  48 hours later I was hooked on the smell – it has become synonymous with cleaning in our house.  We have it standing next to the kitchen sink and even use it to wash our hands.

I make my own all purpose cleaner: I combine: two tablespoon baking soda, 1/2 cup vinegar and, 2 tablespoons salt and 15-20 drops essential oil (lemon), then I add two cups water and that’s my secret. However I am going to try you recipe for all purpose cleaner
