Four and a half hours from Cape Town, like a pearl in the beautiful crown of the Garden Route, sits Reflections Eco Reserve. A mere 11-kilometre-drive from Sedgefield, this wonderful reserve sits nestled, bordering the Garden Route National Park on three sides! We needed a much needed break from the hustle and bustle of a crazy busy school term (and the noise of the city!) and decided to end off the school holidays with a long weekend getaway with the kids.
Reflections was definitely our most memorable getaway to date. The boys are a bit older now and went crazy in the open spaces and beautiful nature setting! They loved it!The kids enjoyed running around outside, exploring the unchartered territory and going to the bird lookout deck every morning. They searched for sticks to “build fires” with and enjoyed playing on the lovely deck that surrounds the cabin.
The cabin was extremely spacious and cozy – it even felt serene with two toddlers running around! The big stoep was just the perfect location for a glass of wine while the sun sets … The beautiful timber cabin is one of three luxury cabins located on 28 hectares of nature reserve. Unspoiled by noise and wonderfully equipped. Rondevlei, a part of a series of estuarine lakes and the Eco reserve don’t allow fishing and boating and boasts about 140 species of bird life as well as Cape Clawless Otter, Water Mongoose, Caracal, Bushpig, Grysbok and Grey Duiker. The whole property is powered by a combination of wind and sun that creates the ultimate clean holiday! You can read all about their conservation missions here. There is no TV and at night the sky is illuminated by more stars than the boys have ever seen! They were amazed!
Saturday morning we ventured out for some freshly squeezed juice at the Sedgefield farmers market. I was so impressed by the array of organic and locally produced products! I wanted to buy everything! The market has great seating areas where you can sit and enjoy all the goods they have to offer ( a bonus with kids) We wanted to visit the Elephant Sanctuary, but the weather did not permit it unfortunately. I would have loved to see the kids reaction when faced with these majestic creatures! The sanctuary is just under an hours drive from Reflections so it’s great for a quick change of scenery 😉
We headed back to Cape Town on the Sunday, but the boys were still chattering away about their wonderful adventures at Reflections. For more information you can visit their website and be sure to book early enough! We will definitely be going back soon!
