Trend forecast 2016: Our favourites

A new year comes with many new resolutions, adjustments and challenges. It also comes with new trends! Here is a run down of our favourite trends for 2016.

∇  Colour 2016

For the first time, the blending of two shades – Rose Quartz and Serenity are chosen as the PANTONE Color of the Year. Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace. The official Plascon Colour of the Year for 2016 is Atlantic Beach (B5-B1-1).We LOVE this vibrant blue! Pair it with yellow or green for stand-out accents!

∇  Ethnic Elements

Ethnic accents will continue to be popular. The main influences are from different corners of the world, namely North Africa (including Morocco), Turkey, the Middle East, India, South America, China, and Japan. From the eastern mosaics in the kitchen to the Moroccan pillows in the living room – warm, cozy and colourful textures will be huge in 2016.

∇  Folklore and Nature

If 2015 was the year of Scandi, 2016 will be the year of Lore. Forecasters are expecting to see a lot of botanical prints, tassles and folk-inspired design for children. Where 2015 focused on monochrome, 2016 will pop with colour and textures. Expect to see a lot of botanical prints and florals.

∇  Colourful + Geometric Tiles

Tiles will continue to be popular in 2016 – especially geometric tiles! Mix and match colourful tiles to make a statement in your kitchen or bathroom.

∇  Marble and Granite

Here at Heymama we are just a little bit OBSESSED with marble textures at the moment! Pair marble textures with greenery for a fresh look! However marble can tend to be a bit cold and clinical, so be sure to add some warmth through layered textures and wooden elements.

∇  More is more

Mix colours, prints and textures for an eclectic and colourful vibe in your home! Don’t be scared because in 2016 more is more. Embellishments, tassles, prints, pom-poms and rich, luxe textures like velvet will be big in 2016.

∇  Blush and Plush

Kids toy trends will move into a more hand-made, neutral phase. Knitted, nude soft toys and plain wooden toys will be all the rage this year.
